Worcestershire based band La Vivas are back with another string to their ever-growing bow. Championed by BBC Introducing and legendary actor Robert Carlyle, there’s no sign of La Vivas slowing down anytime soon. Back with their exceptional new release ‘Need for Speed’, the track hears the outfit turn up the volume and exceed all previous expectations. Produced by Gavin Monaghan (Robert Plant, Ocean Colour Scene, Paolo Nutini) & Liam Radburn at The Magic Garden Studios in Wolverhampton, it’s safe to say, La Vivas are certainly in fine company for their new release. Not only fantastic musicians, La Vivas are also the creators of Worcestershire based live music festival Live Wyre, and will return for their third installment in 2022.
Speaking about the release, La Vivas shares, “This song is quite different from our usual sounds, which shows we can be diverse as musicians. The song has subtle punk influences as well as our usual indie rock attire.”
La Vivas started life as an acoustic duo after friends James Donaldson & Aron Jacques would play music together. Before long the duo started playing a few gigs in local pubs and clubs but they both felt that they needed a bigger sound which meant they needed a full band.
James turned to his brother, a legendary local performer and prolific songwriter Kevin Donaldson. He jumped at the chance to be on stage with his brother and the three of them started jamming and working on original material. Over the next few months, they performed a number of shows with different drummers but none of the drummers worked out so before they turned to a drum machine Kevin had someone in mind.
They turned to former The Murmur drummer Luiz Ferreira who had been in bands with Kevin and James before and he couldn't wait to spin his sticks once more. With Ferreira added as the drummer the band spent most of 2019 rehearsing new material and reinvigorating songs they had worked on in the past
