‘Away’ marks a more vulnerable chapter for Junior Wright

A quieter side of Junior Wright’s songwriting comes into focus on new single “Away”.
The new release addresses the experience of losing someone and the uneven emotional process that follows. Rather than attempting to turn the subject towards an immediate sense of resolution, Wright allows the song to become increasingly sombre as it develops.
Piano provides the main accompaniment, with cello adding further weight while leaving the vocal largely exposed.
For Wright, that stripped-back setting offers an opportunity to concentrate on the expressive qualities of his singing, an instrument he has developed since performing in church choir and school chorus during childhood.
The LA artist has built his broader musical identity around versatility and cites figures such as Prince, Michael Jackson and Bruno Mars among his influences.
With “Away”, however, the focus remains tightly placed on personal songwriting and the emotional connection created through a relatively simple arrangement.
