Inspired by the dreamy breeze that is summertime, Rhona Stevens makes a dazzling debut with her first single ‘Melanin’.
A unique artist, she blends indie, alternative and pop to create a distinct melody that imitates the bliss of sun-soaked skin and warmer months. Using happy-go-lucky guitar riffs, catchy hooks and buoyant vocals, she creates a sound that is bubbling with personality and flair. Further describing the song’s influences, she explains “Melanin is an ode to summer and easier times. I wrote it while daydreaming of festivals and sunshine on a snowy day last January. Melanin was written as a sort of retreat; what I was hoping to manifest. I think Melanin is a song that everyone can relate to and serve as a little dose of escapism to sunnier climes”.
Beginning her musical journey at the age of thirteen, Rhona cites Bombay Bicycle Club and Lianne La Havas as her prime influences, borrowing from their quirky lyricism and infectious melodies and incorporating her own style to define herself.
As ‘Melanin’ begins to make waves, it is guaranteed to keep us afloat until t-shirt weather arrives.
